IMPORTANT: Effective beginning on January 1, 2011, over-the-counter medicines or drugs (e.g. Advil, Ibuprofen, cough syrup) are not eligible for reimbursement under an FSA, without a doctor’s prescription. Insulin is the only medicine that doesn’t require a prescription. Also supplies that you need for medical care (e.g. contact lens solutions, bandages for wounds, thermometers) will continue to be eligible for reimbursement.

As such, upcoming enrollment in your employer’s flexible spending account should take into consideration as of 1/1/2011, over the counter items will no longer be reimbursable under the health FSA.

2011-2012 ENROLLMENT


  • New Caney ISD Cafeteria plan year is September 1, 2011 through August 31, 2012. National Benefit Services (NBS) is the NEW Administrator of the Flex Accounts beginning 9/1/2011 to 8/31/2012 plan year. NBS will be sending ALL participating employees a new Flex card, so please update your address while enrolling this year. The fee for the flex card is being paid by your broker. However, replacement for lost or stolen cards is your responsibility. Once you have your NEW NBS card, please do not throw it away. The card is good for 3 years and can be reloaded with your new election. IMPORTANT: These accounts are “USE IT OR LOSE IT”. Plan your contributions carefully!   • NBS (National Benefit Services) is the new Third Party Administrator (TPA) for New Caney ISD for plan year September 1, 2011 through August 31, 2012. Direct deposit is available for flexible spending accounts.

  • Dental: Guardian is the dental provider for New Caney ISD employees, effective 9/1/11. Guardian dental offers a PPO plan and a DHMO plan for your selection. For plan and rate information click on Benefits & Forms / Dental.

  • NEW! Vision: The new vision plan carrier is Superior Vision effective 9/1/2011. New rates and plan design information is available to you by looking at Benefits & Forms / Vision.

  • Disability: Unum Disability Educator Select income Protection Plan is offered to employees of New Caney ISD. During the annual enrollment period, employees can increase or add disability coverage without providing evidence of insurability! New coverage amounts or changes are subject to pre-existing condition limitations. See plan information under Benefits & Forms for details on plan options and benefit changes.

  • Cancer: Loyal American is the cancer plan provider for New Caney ISD employees, effective 9/1/11. For plan and rate information click on Benefits & Forms / cancer.

  • Hospital Indemnity: American Public Life is the hospital indemnity plan provider for New Caney ISD employees, effective 9/1/11. For plan and rate information click on Benefits & Forms / HIP.

  • Identity Theft Protection: ID Watchdog is the plan provider for identity theft protection for New Caney ISD employees and their families, effective 9/1/11. For plan and rate information click on Benefits & Forms / Identity Theft.

  • Life: Dearborn Voluntary Term Life insurance is the group term life and AD&D provider for New Caney ISD employees, effective 9/1/11. For plan and rate information click on Benefit & Forms / life.

  • Supplemental plan offerings to New Caney ISD employees for 2011-2012 plan year include: Guardian Dental Plan, Superior Vision, Unum Educator Plan Disability, Loyal American Cancer, Dearborn Voluntary Term Life and AD&D, American Public Life Hospital Indemnity Plan, ID Watchdog and Flexible Spending Accounts.
